Atman Eco Lodge
A Continuation of the Landscape
Architecture as a continuation of the landscape
A short distance from the springs of the Acheron, Atman Eco Lodge was designed from the particular natural character of Glyki and from the relationship between people and the landscape.
A stone building at the core
The composition develops around an existing stone building that predates 1955, which serves as the point of reference for the new architectural intervention. Its restoration sets out to bring back its authentic formal characteristics, keeping the memory of the place and creating a dialogue between local tradition and contemporary architecture.
Simple volumes, courtyards and channels of water
The composition is organised through simple volumes, pergolas, courtyards, private and shared terraces and surfaces of water, which shape a gradual transition from private to communal space. The linear water channels recall the springs of the Acheron and the irrigation ditches that cross the Potamia plain, carrying elements of the landscape into the architecture itself.
The complex comprises rooms and apartments of differing typologies, with private outdoor areas, heated pools in selected units and shared spaces for hospitality and rest. The planting, with aromatic plants and Mediterranean vegetation, strengthens the connection between the buildings and the natural environment.
A place that converses with its setting
The intention is a place of hospitality that does not impose itself on the landscape, but converses with it. A place where contemporary comfort sits alongside the calm of nature, and architecture becomes part of the experience of being there.
MMAp's role
The practice took on the architectural study, the issuing of the building permit, the detailed design and the supervision of the works — stages that form one continuous design process, from the first idea through to its realisation.
As part of the project, the practice also prepared the submission dossier for the LEADER programme. The proposal was assessed with the highest score and was selected for funding.
